FAMILY CAREGIVER TRAINING & SUPPORT GROUP
HELPLINE offers FREE educational training to family members who are caring for a loved one. Whether you are a husband caring for your wife who is suffering from cancer for your wife who is suffering from cancer, a friend looking after a neighbor with Alzheimer's disease, or an adult child caring for your aging parent(s), these educational training sessions are designed for you. This program is funded through the Florida Department of Elder Affairs and administered through the Alliance for Aging of Miami-Dade & Monroe Counties. The objective of this program is to educate family members on how they can provide on how they can provide appropriate care for the care
The Benefits
The benefits of this training are twofold in that:
1. The care receivers may be happier and more comfortable in a home environment with familiar surroundings, and
2. The costs associated with caring for a loved one in the home environment are minimal when compared to other facility-based centers.
Sessions are currently focused on the nursing skills required by family caregivers so that they feel comfortable providing basis nursing care, the emotional and social impact of being a caregiver, and learning the techniques to effectively and safely transfer loved ones.
